Beautiful set of cards made by Universal Playing Card Company for Chloride Electrical Storage Company, Ltd., a British company, advertising Exide long life batteries, featuring backs with a superb design by William Barribal. This deck was not part of the Waddington series from 1933. I note at a website called, “Grace’s Guide to British Industrial History” that Chloride Electrical Storage Company began to manufacture Exide batteries in 1937, and I have chosen that date as the date these cards were made. It is consistent with Barribal’s history and consistent with Universal’s Ace and court designs in this deck.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 1 Joker. The cards are bridge size, measuring 90mm x 58mm, and come in the original telescope type box.
The cards are in excellent condition, lightly used if at all. The box is structurally sound, but with some soiling and shelf wear to the outer box.
Thanks for visiting.
