Wonderful set of advertising cards made c. 1925 after the merger of Goodall into De La Rue in 1922, with terrific backs showing Britannia riding the waves with a lion and Neptune by her side, an image used by Dewar’s in the 1920’s in its “Spirit of the Empire” advertising campaign. After the merger, De La Rue continued to use the Goodall courts, Ace of Spades, and Joker. I believe that the Ace of Spades in this deck is the Ace shown by Lodge as Goodall’s 4.4.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 1 Joker, plus a bridge scoring card. The cards are wide, measuring 90mm x 63mm, and come in the original telescope type box.
The cards are in excellent condition, very lightly used if at all. The inside box is in excellent condition; the outer box is in very good condition, structurally sound and quite clean, but with shelf wear, especially at the edges.
Thanks for visiting.
