Delightful set of skat cards made by F.X. Schmid titled, “Brot ist das As” (“Bread is the Ace”), with illustrations of different types of bread on each card. The pips on the Aces and numbered cards, but not the suit symbols, are also breads. The symbol of the German Agricultural Marketing Board (“CMA”) appears on the backs of the cards and on the box, and I assume that Schmid was retained by the Board to make these cards on behalf of German bread makers.
The deck has the usual 32 skat cards, plus an extra card with the rules of skat. The suits are French, not German. The cards are large bridge size, measuring 95mm x 59mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are “as new.” The box is in excellent condition, clean and without issues.
