Gorgeous set of "Ukiyo-e" cards made by Ace Playing Cards c.1953, with scenes from traditional Japanese life on the faces of the cards.

As described by Wikipedia:

"Ukiyo-e, or ukiyo-ye (. . . . 'pictures of the floating world'), is a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that flourished in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries. Aimed at the prosperous merchant class in the urbanizing Edo period (1603–1867), depictions of beautiful women; kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers; scenes from history and folk tales; travel scenes and landscapes; flora and fauna; and erotica were amongst the popular themes."

The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 83mm, with gold gilt around, and come in the original box.

The cards and box are “as new.”

There is also a Nintendo set of Ukiyo-e cards for sale in this shop (T00002841).
