Double Deck Piatnik “Swedish Pattern” Playing Cards, c.1958
Extremely beautiful double deck set of cards made by Piatnik, featuring a variant of the court card pattern developed by Oberg that has come to be known as the standard Swedish pattern. One of the decks is still sealed, and has a U.S. tax stamp that was canceled in 1958. The court cards have the indices of the English speaking world – K,Q, J – and were not intended for sale in Sweden. The decks have lovely geometric backs.
The open deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 57mm, with gold gilt corners, and come in the original Kingsbridge Coronet box.
One deck is mint and sealed; the other is in excellent condition, lightly used if at all, with gold gilt intact, but slightly “bowed” on the vertical dimension. The box is in excellent condition, relatively clean with no structural issues.
