Mint (1 is sealed) double deck of somewhat unusual advertising cards of Tori Richard, the Honolulu-based company that makes men’s and women’s resort wear. According to her website, Cristina Rosa “developed” these cards, and I would assume that she did so during the years 2003-2005 when she worked as Tori Richard’s art director. I am not sure whether “developed” means that she designed them or just collaborated with the designer. The cards and box do not give any indication of a designer or maker of the cards. I assume that they were published by Tori Richard.
One of the unusual aspects of the cards, is that the background of the card faces is not white, or any other single color, but intentionally made to look “aged” – a finely “stippled” effect that makes them appear slightly soiled. But they are mint, and the look is intended. The court cards and Jokers are animals: Jokers are monkeys; Kings are big cats; Queens are butterflies; and Jacks are birds. The suit symbols are not “solid,” but have interior scrollwork which can best be seen on the large symbol on each of the Aces.
Each deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus an extra card about Tori Richard. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm, and come in the original Tori Richard box.
As noted, one deck is mint and sealed; the other is mint. The box is in excellent condition, with the same “aged,” “stippled” look as the cards.
Thanks for visiting.
