Mint, sealed deck of very moving cards made by Grimaud, c.1994, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy in 1944, the largest amphibious operation in history. The cards feature original designs by Yannick Pennanguer. The Jokers show the flags of the major Allied nations involved in the operation, the Aces depict modes of transport on land and on the sea, the Kings and Jacks portray prominent WWII military leaders, and the Queens illustrate the 5 beaches on which the landing took place. The faces of these cards can be seen at the World Web Playing Card Museum (WWPCM #07036).
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a card announcing and describing the deck. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
As noted, the cards are mint and sealed. The box is “as new.”
