Gorgeous deck of cards first made in 1954-5 by Van Genechten, and reprinted by Carta Mundi in 1983 in a limited edition for the International Playing Card Society. This is number 437 (or 431?) of 500 made. According to an insert card that accompanied the deck, the beautiful designs were by an unknown Dutch artist and the original lithographs were made by Van Tijn & Zack, Amsterdam. The insert card goes on to say that “the deck is printed in 8 colours offset.” I can’t be sure if that means the Van Genechten cards were printed that way or this 1983 Carta Mundi reprint was, but looking at the cards I believe it refers to this very deck.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus a wonderful Joker, plus the extra card noted that gives some history about the deck and indicates what number it is in the limited edition. The cards are bridge size, measuring 88mm x 58mm, with gold gilt at the corners. There is no box.
The cards are “as new.”
