Jack Brickhouse “Hey Hey! Cubs” Playing Cards, “Cub History Since 1876 In Pictures,” c.1984
Terrific deck of cards with over 100 years of Chicago Cubs history, in photographs. There is nothing to indicate who made these cards, or even who published them. Jack Brickhouse, the legendary Cubs announcer, is credited with the deck and with the Cubs history that is on four 2-sided cards that summarize the history shown in the photographs on the cards. I suspect that he decided what 52 photographs should be used. He is the Ace of Hearts, and he and fellow announcer, Harry Caray, are one of the Jokers. The deck seems to present the photographs chronologically with the oldest photos in the Heart suit, and the most recent in the Spade suit. The wonderful early photos are a particular treat for serious baseball fans: the 1878 Champions (2H), Cap Anson in 1879 (3H), etc.
The deck has52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus the 4 2-sided cards with the moments in history that are shown in the photos. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
The cards and box are mint. They were sealed, but I removed the cellophane to inspect and photograph them for this listing.
