Excellent pair of early celluloid game markers made by Celluloid Co. The box shows 2 patent dates, the latest of which is 1885; obviously, the markers date no earlier than that year. I have simply adopted it as the year this pair was made, but it may date later. The trademark of this company is very similar to the trademark of the Celluloid Co. that would make the first set of celluloid playing cards in 1928. Each marker measures 74mm in width x 33mm in height x 9mm in thickness, and come in the original cardboard box.
The markers are in excellent condition. The wheels that advance the numbers function, but in one direction only (away from the midline) and sometimes with effort. The box has considerable wear, including a significant abrasion on the lid, but is structurally sound.
Thanks for visiting.
