Delightful deck made by Carta Mundi c.1984 for a club, the “Bouwclub de Watertore” in Bergen op Zoom, a small town in the south of the Netherlands. It commemorates the 11th anniversary of the club, and was distributed as a souvenir at the Bergen op Zoom Carnaval for that year. I wish I had a better understanding of the “Bouwclub de Watertore.” Bergen op Zoom has a water tower, and it might even be considered something of a town landmark. It is illustrated on the Ace of Spades of this deck. The Aces are double ended “scenic” aces, done in the same playful artistic style as the Jokers and court cards. But I don’t know what the water tower club is about. The court card illustrations are the same for each suit.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a card that introduces the deck. The cards are slightly small, measuring 87mm x 56mm, and come in the original box.
The cards and box are both “as new.”
Thanks for visiting.
