Relatively recent and very rare deck, apparently published by ANCA, the Armenian National Committee of America, to urge political support for House Resolution 106, the “Armenian Genocide” resolution of 2007. My guess is that the cards were not marketed commercially, but were distributed to ANCA supporters, financial and otherwise. The cards have illustrations of various politicians, journalists, lobbyists, and members of the academic community that supported and opposed the Resolution. My assumption is that it was published after the vote in favor by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and before its scheduled vote before the full House. The debate before the House was postponed and the vote was never taken. I do not know the maker, but if forced to guess, would guess they were made by the United States Playing Card Co.
The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus an additional backed card with a quote about Armenia and Armenians attributed to William Saroyan. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are mint and the box is “as new.” The cellophane of the box was broken to permit inspection and copying for this listing.
