Excellent set of the “Counties of England” (Northern Series) cards made by John Jaques & Son c.1930. The “Counties of England” cards were first made by Jacques c.1880, and a second edition was published c.1900. The set here for sale was a third edition with rounded corners on the cards, made c.1930. According to a blurb on these cards at the World of Playing Cards website, the information on the cards was updated with each successive edition.
The set is complete at 48 cards, including the Key card. There are 10 sets of varying numbers of cards related to the several northern counties; Lancashire and Yorkshire are subdivided into regions. In addition to the cards, there is a paper insert describing the rules for the game. The cards are an unusual wide size, measuring 85mm x 67mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent lightly used condition, without issues of any kind. The paper insert is in very good condition, clean but with very slight tears developing at the folds. The box is also in very good condition, with generalized wear and light soiling in places.
