Two decks of cards made by Waddington c.1935-1945, with extremely charming backs. I am tempted to say that these are a “double deck” as the backs are very similar in design and appear to be by the same artist. There is a single deck of McCaddie cards for sale on the internet by a very knowledgeable card seller, and it is dated c.1935. However, it appears that Lodge dates the court cards and Aces used in these decks a bit later. On balance it seems safe to say that the decks were made sometime during the period 1935-1945.
Each deck has 52 suited cards, plus 1 Joker. The cards are bridge size, measuring 90mm x 59mm, with gold gilt around. There are no boxes.
The cards are in very good used condition, with approximately 25%-50% of the gold gilt intact. However, there is a crease across one end of the Ace of Hearts in the Miss Hittie deck (separately pictured); it is not visible on the back, but can be seen on the face of the card. In general, it is probably fair to say that the overall condition of the McCaddie deck is slightly better than the condition of the Miss Hittie deck.
Each of these decks is for sale separately for $35; both are for sale for $65.
Thanks for visiting.
