Very nice vintage set of Modiano’s classic “Mercante in Fiera” cards. There are no tax or date stamps of any kind, and so I assume that the set dates after 1972. I have indicated that they were made in the 1980’s, but that is a guess. They are not new or contemporary. For those not familiar it, “Mercante in Fiera” (“Merchant at the Fair’) is a very popular game in Italy, based entirely upon luck, in which children and adults have an equal chance of winning.
A set of “Mercante in Fiera” cards has 2 decks of 40 cards, with identical illustrations on the card faces, and contrasting backs. The subjects illustrated vary between card makers, and the set listed here features birds, animals and flowers (nos. 1-24, each deck) and exotic persons and places (nos. 26-40, each deck.)
This set is complete, with 80 cards as noted above. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, and appear to have been lightly used. The box has moderate shelf wear.
Thanks for visiting.
