Double Deck Fournier “The Firebird” Playing Cards, Lucy Maxym “Russian Lacquer, Legends, and Fairy Tales,” Yury Shakov Designs, c.1984
Mint, sealed (cards, not box) double deck of cards made by Fournier c.1984, titled “The Firebird,” with superb original designs by Yury Shakov, based upon ancient stories that appear in a book by Lucy Maxym, “Russian Lacquer, Legends, and Fairy Tales,.” Apparently the Maxym book was the first work published in the United States on the subject of Russian lacquer miniature painting. The cards are mint and sealed, but there are pictures of the faces of the cards at the World Web Playing Card Museum (WWPCM #05565).
I believe that each deck has 52 suited cards, plus at least 1 Joker. The box says that each deck has 55 cards, and the entry for these cards in the World Web Playing Card Museum shows extra cards that describe the decks – the artist, the inspiration for the cards, and what the Aces and court cards represent. Since the cards are mint and sealed, the decks are complete. But I do not know what combination of Jokers and extra cards each deck has. The cards are bridge size, measuring 88mm x 57mm, with gold gilt on the corners, and come in the original packaging – a tray inside a cardboard sleeve.
As noted, the cards are mint and sealed. The packaging is in excellent condition, but the with shelf wear on edges of the sleeve.
