Group of 4 different playing card items made by various U.S. card manufacturers in the first half of the 19th century. Each of these decks is a 52-card deck, but with no box and no joker. The condition of each is described below, but each is in very good or better condition. In each case, the imaged cards are representative of the cards as a whole. For the collector who would like to study early court card designs, early Aces, and other aspects of early American decks, these are an inexpensive way to do so. Each is for sale for $10. You may buy one item, more than one, or all items in the group, for $10 each; all 4 items currently in this group would be $40. If you wish to buy all 4 decks, you need only commit to buy this listing. If you want less than all, please email me, and I will quote shipping and insurance for fewer than all decks.

The featured picture is of the group of items as a whole, and there is also a picture of each item individually. The four items are:

* Poker size "Mandel Bros. Dept. Store" cards made by United States Playing Card Co., c.1924. [Reference: Dawson, The Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards, p.190, AA7] This is the deck shown at the top of the featured picture, with a lion and an M encircled, and a special Ace of Hearts with a street map to this Chicago store along with a unique . The cards are in very good used condition, with some soiling and edge wear, but otherwise without issues.

* Bridge size deck made by Standard Playing Card Manufacturing Company, "American Beauty" brand, c.1910. [Reference: Dawson, The Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards, p.139, SU7] The cards are in very good to excellent condition, lightly used and very clean. These cards are gold gilt around, and approximately 50% of the gilt remains.

* Poker size "Hornet #6" (first deck) cards made by United States Playing Card Co., c.1915. [Reference: Dawson, The Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards, p.105, US46a] This is the first of two decks shown in the images with blue backs, and with an Ace of Spades that simply says "Made In USA," without identifying the maker. The cards are in excellent condition, lightly used with very light soiling to some of the cards.

* Poker size "Hornet #6" (second deck) cards made by United States Playing Card Co., c.1915. [Reference: Dawson, The Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards, p.105, US46a] This is the second of two decks shown in the images with blue backs, and with an Ace of Spades that simply says "Made In USA," without identifying the maker. The cards are in excellent condition, lightly used with very light soiling to some of the cards.

If you are interested in any (or all!) of these decks please email me.
