Exceptional set of the justifiably famous double deck of pin-up cards, called “Yeux Doux,” made by Brown & Bigelow c.1946, featuring 1 deck with backs designed by Gil Elvgren and another deck with backs designed by Zoe Mozert. The Mozert backs show a woman blowing bubbles (“Bubbles”), while the Elvgren deck shows a woman on the beach (“Gay Nymph”). Both works were hugely successful paintings, before Brown & Bigelow decided to publish them together in this double deck of cards.
Each deck has 52 cards, plus 1 Joker. The cards are accompanied by a “Yeux Doux” paper insert with a risqué little poem. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, with beautiful gold gilt edges. They come in the original box.
The cards, insert and box are in exceptional condition, “as new” or very nearly so. The box shows that these cards were made on behalf of a company called Charles N. Wood Company to advertise the Walter Snow Fighter, but there is no advertising on the cards themselves.
