Excellent set of the C.L. Wüst “Album Suisse” patience cards, in my opinion one of the most beautiful patience decks ever published. The cards were made in the 19th century in a standard large size, but this patience size deck was made c.1900. The Aces and court cards have oval frames. The Aces are scenes of Switzerland, and the court cards are depictions of persons from various Swiss cantons. The Aces and court cards are double ended in the sense that each has two different illustrations – 2 scenes on each of the Aces, and 2 persons on each of the court cards. Moreover, the backs are all different. Each has a lovely pastel scene of Switzerland within an oval frame, and while the overall look of each back is the same, the scenes depicted on each are different.
The deck has 52 cards. The cards are large patience size, measuring 80mm x 50mm, with gold gilt on the corners. They come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent lightly used condition, with gold gilt intact. The box is in no better than good condition, if that, with reasonably clean graphics, but with no top flap, with tears developing on the sides, and with sides unglued.
