Double Deck Piatnik “Matisse Jazz” Playing Cards, Museum of Modern Art, Henri Matisse Plates 1 (“The Clown”) and 8 (“Icarus”) from Portfolio Jazz (1947), c.1994
Mint double deck of cards made by Piatnik for the Museum of Modern Art, c.1994, featuring backs with two different plates, "Clown" and "Icarus," from an artist's book titled, "Jazz." The book consists of about 100 prints based upon wonderful cutouts of Henri Matisse.
Each deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus an insert card introducing the deck. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and come in the original box.
One deck is mint and sealed in its wrapper. The other deck is in excellent condition, "as new" or very nearly so. The box is also in excellent condition, "as new" except for very slight shelf wear at the corners.
