Piatnik “Polnische Kaffeehaus Karten 135” Playing Cards, c.1918
Gorgeous and somewhat rare deck of cards made by Piatnik c.1918. The wrapper has a U.S. tax stamp that would date the deck c.1924-1929, but all indications are that the cards were made c.1918-1920. The cards are identical in all respect to those described in the catalogue of the Cary Collection, and are there dated c.1918, and I have adopted that date here. The designs are unique and very beautiful, and the printing is the high quality one would expect of Piatnik cards in the early 20th century.
The deck has 32 cards with German suits, suitable for use in 32-card German card games. The cards are very large and wide, measuring 114mm x 72mm, and come in the original wrapper.
The cards are mint. The wrapper is very clean, but has some tears and other damage.
