Double deck of mint and wrapped cards made by Waddington c.1945 to celebrate the contributions of British and Canadian forces as part of the Allied war effort in World War II during the years 1944-1945. The top part of the backs gives the names of famous battles/campaigns at the Western Front flanking an emblem of the British airborne forces above the RAF badge ("Per ardua ad astra"): Normandy, Belgium, Holland, and The Rhine. The bottom part of the backs shows the 21st Army Group shoulder flash, with what I believe are military emblems for the British and Canadian armed forces. Between the top and bottom parts of the backs is an illustration of parachuting soldiers, perhaps a specific reference to Operation Varsity or to paratrooper operations; perhaps a reference more generally to the role of British and Canadian forces in World War II.
The decks are still in their Waddington wrappers, but I assume that each has 52 cards, plus at least 1 Joker. The cards are bridge size, approximately 89mm x 58mm, taking the wrapper into account. The come in the original box.
As noted, the cards are mint and still in their wrappers. The box is in excellent clean condition, but with an issue at one of the bottom corners (separately pictured).
Thanks for visiting.
