Antique maritime deck made c.1900 by United States Playing Card Co. for Geo. Thompson & Co., Ltd., celebrating Thompson's shipping company, the Aberdeen Line. By this time the Aberdeen Line operated a small fleet of steamers with regular service between London and Australia via South Africa. The cards are USPC's "Sportsman's 202" brand.
The deck has 52 cards, including the distinctive Sportsman's Ace. The Joker is missing. The cards are wide, measuring 88mm x 63mm, and were made with gold gilt edges around. They come in the original telescope box.
The cards are in no better than good condition. They have seen considerable use, to the point that only about 5% of the gold gilt remains, and there is some wear and soiling. The inner box is in very good condition, but the outer box is missing its top, and has wear and soiling.
Thanks for visiting.
