Mint deck of attractive and unusual cards, almost certainly made by Nintendo, for a Japanese clothing company by the name of Sanko Iryo Co., Ltd., celebrating the company's "Johnian" line of suits. I can find very little information about Sanko Iryo and/or the Johnnian name, and I am inclined to think that the company is out of business. The "Johnian" trademark was apparently filed in 1976, and so I have dated the cards to that year. However, all of the fine writing on all of the cards is in Japanese, and I suspect that there is a fair bit of information on the cards that is lost on me.
The Aces are illustrations depicting "Johnian" statuettes, sculpted to look like sea captains; I imagine this is some kind of official logo. The court cards have photos of models with suits – Johnian suits, but also other brands (i.e., Austin Reed, Stanley Blacker, Guy LaRoche).; I don't know what the connection or relationship is between Sanko Iryo and these other brands. The pip cards have illustrations relating to materials, color co-ordinations, and other tailoring subjects. There are 52 cards and 2 Jokers. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm. There is no box.
The cards are in mint condition, removed from their wrapper to be photographed for this listing.
Thanks for visiting.
