Mint, sealed set of wonderful cards published at or about the time of Barry Goldwater's run for President by Brown & Bigelow (Remembrance brand), what the Dawson/Hochman Encyclopedia titles the "Goldwater for President" deck. The backs consist of the chemical symbols for gold (Au) and water (H20), and the court cards have pictures of Goldwater superimposed on standard court dress. Frankly, I doubt that the deck was produced by Goldwater's supporters as the court cards are hardly flattering to Goldwater, especially those that portray him as a Queen. On the other hand, the Jokers show a donkey with a jester's hat – the donkey a clear reference to the Democratic Party – so perhaps these cards were intended as supportive of the Goldwater candidacy. Whatever the intent, the deck is somewhat rare, and completely delightful. The first 2 pictures of this listing are of the actual deck here for sale; the remaining pictures showing faces of the cards are from an open deck previously sold in this shop.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 original Jokers (the donkey noted above). The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are mint and sealed in the box.
