Rare and attractive deck of "American Drummer" cards copyrighted to, and published by, American Drummer Playing Card Co., featuring original designs by Roy Lipstreu depicting "our Statesmen and Generals, our spirited American women, and our valiant soldiers and sailors" who fought for American independence. It was obviously published on the occasion of the American Bi-Centennial, and my guess is that Mr. Lipstreu himself was incorporated under the name American Drummer Playing Card Co. The maker of the cards is unknown, but it is not a major card maker, as the cards are square cornered, the stock does not have a traditional 1970s finish, and the graphics are very vivid.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a separate insert card announcing the deck. In addition, the deck came with a piece of paper that identifies who is depicted on the court cards. Frankly, the designs of the courts are so similar between the suits that I am not sure how accurately the court cards portray the historical figures identified. The cards are slightly wide bridge size, measuring 89mm x 60mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are mint, and the box is as new, as is the accompanying paper. The paper has been folded, but it is folded larger than the size of the card box. Presumably it could be refolded to fit, but I have not attempted it.
Thanks for visiting.
