Gibson “Finesse” Playing Cards w/ “Gibson Slims” Ace of Spades, c.1930s
Mint, sealed deck of cards made by Gibson Playing Card Co. c.1930s. The deck comes in a "Finesse" brand box, and is a perfect fit for that box. However, the Ace of Spades that shows through the cellophane is the "Gibson Slims" Ace, not the "Finesse" Ace even though these are not "slim" cards. [According to the Dawson/Hochman Encyclopedia, the "Gibson Slims" cards were nearly ¼" narrower than other Gibson brands, but these cards are standard bridge size]. I am unwilling to break the seal of the deck to see what the Joker looks like. But it may be the "Finesse" Joker, and may be the "Gibson Slims" design.
I assume the deck has at least 52 cards, plus 1 Joker. As noted the cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, with silver gilt all around. They come in what I strongly believe is the original box, notwithstanding the "Gibson Slims" style Ace instead of the "Finesse" Ace.
As noted the cards are mint and sealed. The box is in good, perhaps very good, condition, structurally sound but with evidence of wear and some very light soiling.
