Excellent hand-coloured aquatint by renowned English caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson (1756-1827), from his Dr. Syntax series, titled "Dr. Syntax at a Card Party," date c.1825. Typical of Rowlandson's prints, the design was done in outline with the reed-pen, and delicately washed with colour. It was then etched by the artist on copper, and afterwards aquatinted – usually by a professional engraver – with the impressions finally coloured by hand. The entire print measures 9.8" x 6.3", with the interior hand-coloured picture measuring approximately 7.7" x 4.1"
There is mild spotting at 2 or 3 places on the border of the picture, that should not be visible when the print is matted and framed; otherwise, the condition is very good, with colors bright and sharp.
