Superb set of Fournier’s “Monumentos de Espana,” one of a series of exceptional souvenir decks made by Fournier from 1950 to 1965 (also, “Monuments of Egypt,” “East Africa,” “Monumenti d’Italia,” “Monuments of Paris,” “Baraja Turistica”).
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a “title card” that also has a photograph. The cards are accompanied by a booklet in Spanish and English describing the scenes depicted. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm, with gold gilt on the corners, and come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” or nearly so, with all gold gilt intact. The pamphlet is in very good condition, clean and intact but with folds at the corners and wrinkles on a few of the pages. The outer box is very clean with an excellent sample card, although for some reason the back of the box with the sample card has a hole; the inner box has been taped at all four corners, and while the tape helps the box to contain the cards, the inner box is vulnerable, the tape notwithstanding.
