Handsome card box featuring a charming design on the lid that includes early trumpets (no valves) and garlands. It accommodates 2 decks of standard bridge size cards, w/ boxes, comfortably. The (knowledgeable) seller to me indicated that the box is Victorian, dating c.1900, and that the decoration on the lid is done with penwork. I know very little about penwork, but have no reason to doubt the description. The box measures approximately 6⅔” from side to side and 5” from front to back, and it stands approximately 1¾” high. There is a lip to the lid that helps in opening the box.
The box is in excellent condition, without issues at the hinges or elsewhere, except that there is noticeable abrasion to the underside that has removed the stain and finish.
Thanks for visiting.
