Handsome deck of cards printed by Carta Mundi for a book club, “Le Club Express,” featuring charming illustrations by J.P. Djivanides depicting the great writers of France on the court cards and the residences (“maisons”) of four of those writers on the Aces. There is a card announcing the deck which also references “Brepols Paris,” and I assume the cards were made c.1970 at or about the time Carta Mundi was formed as a joint venture of Biermans, Brepols and Van Genechten. The World Web Playing Card Museum dates the deck to that year.
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus the card announcing the deck already noted. The cards are slightly small bridge size, measuring 88mm x 57mm, and they come in the original box.
The cards are “as new” and the box is in excellent condition with only the slightest signs of wear.
Thanks for visiting.
