Mint, sealed double deck of “Presidential Playing Cards,” made by F.X. Schmid c.1990s for the Smithsonian Institution. It seems to me to be ironic, to say the least, that a deck of cards commissioned by the Smithsonian and featuring depictions of U.S. Presidents was printed in Germany. I have elected not to break the wrapper of these cards, but the one card face that can be seen through the wrapper – the Ace of Hearts, depicting George Washington – is a portrait from the National Portrait Gallery’s collection of Presidential portraits, and it would not be surprising if the depictions on all of the cards were taken from that collection.
Presumably each deck has 52 cards, plus at least 2 Jokers. The cards are bridge size, measuring 89mm x 58mm, and are housed in the original hard plastic Schmid box inside a cardboard sleeve.
The cards are mint and sealed, and the box and sleeve are “as new.”
Thanks for visiting.
