Extremely handsome 1984 reprint by Vito Arienti (Edizioni del Solleone) of the "Cartes Récréatives 1819" transformation cards, the original of which was published in 1819. The 1819 version consisted of 33 cards, with the pips and Valets/Jacks captioned at the bottom. The 33 cards were Ace and 7 through King in the 4 suits, together with a special "Carte d'Introduction" that gives the deck its title and is captioned "A L'assassin a l'assassin." The Arienti / Solleone reprint cards were published in a limited edition of 800 decks, of which this is number 520.
According to Field, there are 3 known sets of the original pack extant, one of which is called the Guiard pack. The Arienti / Solleone set is patterned after the Guiard pack, and, also according to Field, the Guiard pack does not include the "Carte d'Introduction." Nevertheless, this Arienti / Solleone set includes the "Carte d'Introduction," along with the 32 suit cards and an additional card handwritten in Italian with information about the deck. The cards are wide, measuring 91mm x 65mm, and come in the original packaging. They are "wrapped" in a cardboard strip and slide into a sleeve.
The cards and packaging are in pristine condition.
