Excellent deck of cards made by Grimaud c.1980, titled “Les Presidents de la Republique Francaise,” featuring photographs relating to French governance. The Aces depict prominent public buildings, the Kings, Jacks, and Jokers depict Presidents of France from 1871 to the end of 1980 (hence the name of the deck), and the Queens depict historical statues of Marianne, the national emblem of France. On one of the Jokers, there is a place “reserved” for the President that would be elected on April 26, 1981 (Francois Mitterand).
The deck has 52 cards, plus 2 Jokers, plus a card introducing the deck. The cards are accompanied by a folded paper insert in French describing the Aces, court cards, and Jokers. The cards are wide, measuring 89mm x 63mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are in excellent condition, “as new” except that the deck is slightly bowed on the diagonal. The box is in good condition, with general signs of age and wear, one of the top side flaps close to separating, and an old price tag on the back side.
