Rare “Quartett” card game (“Go Fish” in the U.S., “Happy Families” in the U.K.) made by Obchodni Tiskarny , n.p., Kolin ("OTK"), the leading card maker of Czechoslovakia. The game features 8 sets of 4 cards each, depicting the history of boats and ships and grouped by type. I do not speak or read Czech and cannot tell if the box or insert card indicates a date of manufacture. Certainly the boat/ship history does not extend much beyond 1915, if that late. However, my guess – and it is no more than a guess – is that the cards date to the 1940s or 1950s. The text of the cards is provided by Vladimir Hulpach, an author of children’s books, whose other work dates to the middle of the 20th century, and the cards are made from untreated stock.
The 32 game cards are accompanied by an insert card; I think that the insert card speaks to the boats and ships, not to the rules of the game, but I am not certain. The cards are large, measuring 107mm x 65mm, and come in the original box.
The cards are in very good used condition. The faces of all cards are shown to assist in evaluating condition. The box is in good condition, quite worn in places, but structurally still intact.
