A charming and rare miniature sewing set from the early 1800s, housed in a little walnut. The etui original had ten pieces, one is missing. The gilt metal etui contains a thimble, a crystal perfume bottle with original stopper, a tiny perfume funnel, a pair of scissors, a pair of tweezers, a pencil, a bodkin, a needle case, and a little tablet, on which is noted (in French) “given by Col. Chavaudret [according to] Charlotte Pron”. Colonel Charles-Francois Chavraudet was a Lieutenant Colonel in the French artillery in the mid-1800s.
The thimble is in perfect condition and measures 15/16” x 9/16”. The cap of the perfume bottle is gilded silver with a hallmark for 1809-1819. The etui measures just under 2 inches x 1 ¼ x 1 ¾ inches. There is a visible crack on the shell.
