This creatively made brooch, circa 1970s, is unsigned Jan Max, and features a metal "cut-away" scene of an Asian man in his garden, with portions colored in reminiscent of stained glass. A white cardboard disc is slipped behind the picture; bamboo motif japanned (black enameled) frame. 2 1/4". This distinctive style is identified as the work of JanMax in Julia Carroll's reference book "Collecting Costume Jewelry 101." Not much is known about the artist, and examples of this type of pin are quite scarce.
