A superb 18th c Chinese export enamel on copper dish! This unique example depicts a European dandy (possibly a Dutch or Englishman) with a cane and rimmed hat. A Chinese woman lays on the steps in front of her home, reaching out to the man. Notice her amusingly long fingernails! In the background is a shirtless figure/mythical being hidden amongst the trees. With a good variety of strong colors, and decoration to all sides. Mounted with a simple copper rim and foot and marked in red characters to the bottom. These enamel items, particularly those with Western figures, were made for export to the European market. Guaranteed to date to the 18th century. An intriguing, one of a kind piece with much character!
Condition: In overall good condition, with small chips to the enamel (mainly to the sides). The central panel is unaffected, and the piece displays beautifully.
Measurements: 4 in long x 4 in wide x 3/4 in high (10 cm x 10 cm x 2 cm).
