A rare European silver mezuzah holder, circa early-mid 19th c Germany. This mezuzah case would contain a traditional Jewish scroll and hung on door frames. A fine piece, with scrolling designs and a small 'window' in order to see the scroll. Etched with Hebrew letters (Shin, Daled, Yud) and a hole to each side for the nails. Marked with the 835 silver standard along with a crown and makers mark. A rare piece, as delicate silver mezuzah cases like this were often damaged or destroyed over the years.
Condition: In good original condition, with minor dents and splits to the edge as expected from use - as this piece was taken on and off multiple door frames over the centuries.
Measurements: 6 3/4 in long x 2 in wide (17.25 cm x 5 cm)
