Snakes have been imbued with symbolism for as long as humans have been on the planet, including the serpent in the Garden of Eden. Snakes were revered in many cultures, including during the Victorian Era when Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria an engagement ring with the head of a snake, signifying eternal love.
This cleverly made coiled snake has golden-orange textured enamel over bright gold-tone, accented by clear rhinestones and emerald-green cabochons for eyes.
It measures 2-1/2" from its forked tongue to the end of its tail and is 1-3/8" wide.
It is signed "© Mandle" with a crown over the "a" and the "n".
The snake is in excellent vintage condition with no loss of enamel or plating, the rhinestones sparkling and the pin mechanism working correctly.
The Mandle company was in business from about 1956 to the 1990's, according to Researching Costume Jewelry.
