This highly-detailed brooch of a working horse-mounted cowboy or "buckaroo" on a bucking horse is brandishing his pistol.
The brooch measures 2" long x 1-5/8" wide and is very dimensional shown in profile when worn.
It is an adaptation of the Smithsonian's sculpture "Vaquero" by Luis Jimenez. You can see images of the actual sculpture at the Smithsonian by searching for "Luis Jimenez Vaquero Sculpture". The artist was renown for his "color-splashed images of swirling dancers, roughneck cowboys in motion and the working class" according to his obituary in the U-T San Diego.
The brooch is signed "Smithsonian Institution" and is in excellent condition, looking like it has never been worn.
