Albert Irving Ennis was born in Washington, DC on August 25, 1912. Ennis worked in San Francisco in commercial art while studying at the CSFA under Spencer Mackey and Richard Diebenkorn. He further studied at the Pescadero Art School under Marcus Reitzel before moving to southern California. After settling in La Jolla, he was a pupil of Sebastian Capella. He conducted many painting workshops in the San Diego area before his death there on August 24, 1989.
