This is a lovely pair of Victorian era Staffordshire figurines that have amazingly stayed together these many years! Its a couple, sitting outside, reading books, on matching bases. They are 4 & 3/4 inches high and have nice color and detail.
The man's book is slightly off center, making it looks like its about to fall out of his hands, but its obviously firmly attached. His book is also missing a spot of brown color on the cover, which can be seen in the photos, and is under the glaze, so was an oversight in the making. He is in very good condition with no chips or crazing, and one mold line on the inside center, which looks like a crack, but does not go all the way through. It is however, typical of these pieces, since they were made for a certain market. There is also a small mark with no glaze on the bottom side rim, and a paint flake on the front bottom.
The lady holds the book a bit straighter, and is in good condition with two hairline cracks on the inside of her base. Only one can be seen from the outside, and this is all shown in the photos, so be sure to take a look. Otherwise, she has no other damage to note, and the set together is really quite lovely.
Please see the photos as they show the condition and detail well and use the "Click to Expand" on the bottom of the pictures to see them fully.
