This is an older English glass bottle from R Stothert & Sons, with the embossed bust of Stothert in the center front and embossed lettering on the front and back. The town of Atherton is indicated below the figure of the man, and on the back bottom, the lettering is hard to read, but it says Grannington Shaw & Co Ld, Makers, St. Helens. This firm operated with that name prior to 1913, and in this country, their bottles were typically found out West. This particular bottle has the Ld for Limited after Cannington & Shaw, and they became a Limited partnership in 1892, so we have a date range of about 1892 to 1913 for this bottle. It may have held beer, medicine, liquor or some sort of food stuffs.
The bottle is a bit over 9 inches tall and is thick heavy dark green glass which not only catches the light beautifully, but also shows the bubbles in the glass, which indicates the age. Its in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. I can just imagine what it once held... A nice addition to your bottle collection!
