This interesting old book, titled Baby's Opera, was published by the McLoughlin Brothers of New York in 1877, although no date is given. The original book was published in England, and that same year, McLoughlin Bros published their version, which was essentially a printed version. Its got incredible illustrations, and I've shown all the full page illustrations in the photos. The other pages are illustrated as well, in borders around the music. Walter Crane was the illustrator. The book is hardcover, with 54 numbered pages, and the table of contents is shown so that you can see what is included is this charming book.
There are pencil marks on the end papers inside the front cover and some foxing and stains throughout, and some cover wear (including edge wear and corner bumps). The book is fragile, and as you can see in the last photo, the cover has detached from the binding, but the pages are still bound together. Its a definite handle with care situation, but this book could be restored by having the cover reattached, which would be worth it, as this edition does have value. The illustrations are also valuable and the book could be conserved by removing the pages and framing them with their corresponding songs, since the colors are so vibrant, and hanging in a music room or a child's room. Many possibilities for this wonderful old book!
Please see the photos as they show the condition and detail well.
