An Eclectic Mix of Antiques and Collectibles from Central Pennsylvania
This wonderful old Santa putz figure stands about 5 & 1/2 inches tall, has a clay or composition face, a cotton batting beard, a brown chenille tree brand in one hand, a red felt hat and coat with chenille trim, and blue cloth pants over his paper mache boots which are attached to the paper mache base with metal holders that go through to the underside. The boots have white paint on them to simulate the snow that he has just walked through. There is a black belt around his midsection. The base is marked with a 29 cent price stamp, and he was most likely made in Japan.
The detail on this piece is wonderful, reminiscent of the German Santas, of course, and it is in overall very good condition with some light wear to the beard and jacket. There is a ding on the edge of the base, a separation between the boots and the base, but they are still firmly attached with the metal pieces that go through to the underside. I've shown him from every angle, so please take a look as they show the condition and detail well. A neat old piece for your collection!
