This is a beautiful Victorian era men's beaver top hat that was made by Maurice Rothschild and Co. It has the mark on the inside top as you can see in the photos. It is in nice condition for its age, with its original band around the outside and a nice brim. The beaver fur is also in very good condition with some minor wear mainly on the top edges and it still has a nice shine to it. The inside is lined in creme silk with a brown leather band and there are some small stains on the silk, and what look like some initials, and a couple of small spots of light wear on the brown leather. On the back underside of the brim, there are some tiny holes in the black material there, as if from being taken on and off, or tipped to greet someone. Overall, though, condition is very good and the photos really show it well.
The measurements are as follows: 7 & 7/8 by 6 & 1/8 inches across on the inside opening, 12 & 1/4 by about 10 & 1/2 across on the brim, 5 & 1/2 inches deep when hat is turned upside and measuring from the top edge of the leather band to the very bottom where it is silk (which wool be the top of the hat when turned right side up), and when looking at the hat standing upright, it is almost 6 & 1/4 inches high.
Please see the photos as they show the condition and details well.
