This is a beautiful antique set of embossed demitasse spoons from the 1893 Worlds Fair, aka the Columbian Exposition, in Chicago, in their original box. Each spoon has 1893 and a picture of Columbus at the top of the handle, then the handles say World's Fair City, and in each of the spoon's bowls, there is a different building pictured and titled. They are:
Manufacturers & Liberal Arts
The box is lined in brown velvet, and each 4 & 1/4 inch long spoon has a spot that it rests in securely. The box has some wear, a few small splits and age darkening, but is still sturdy. the brown velvet has some wear where the bowls of the spoons rest. The spoons are mainly in very good condition, but the one with the Manufacturers and Liberal Arts building on it has some corrosion in the bowl. There is a tiny spot on the Machinery Hall spoon's bowl as well. There are a few spots of light tarnishing as well, which makes me think these are silver-plated, however the backs of the spoons are simply marked Standard. Overall, its a nice set and not one seen complete very often in its original box. The individual spoons are easier to find for sale.
