Published in 1898 by McLouglin Brothers of New York, this softcover stapled wraps children's book is titled A Visit from Santa Claus. As we expect of the McLoughlin Brothers, the chromolithograph illustrations are simply stunning and they are full page. The color illustrations on the pages alternate with the black and white ones that illustrate the text pages, as you can see in the photos, as we were able to show all the pages and the front and back covers in the photos. The color illustrations and the back cover have copyright dates of 1898 on them and the ornate cover has the number of 105 on the bottom left. The cover background is made to look like linen, but it is not linen. Instead, the finish is glossy and this appears to be one of their early attempts at the type of covers that you could clean with a damp cloth. The pages are on nice thick heavier stock paper, so are not flimsy.
The binding is strong and the pages are tight, but there is some cover and spine wear as you can see in the photos. There is also a damp stain on the bottom right front cover corner that does appear on some of the pages after it as well, and a small damp stain on the top right corner of the back cover, which shows through to a few of the preceding pages with some minor foxing. There are a few light smudges and marks on the pages, usually from page turning, but there is no writing in it, and one very small tear on the edge of the back cover. However, this can all be seen in the photos, since they show every page. Overall condition is good for a 120 year old children's book of which there are not many left available to purchase.
