This is a lovely Georgian era, circa early 1800s, burl wood snuff box that features an oval piece of mother of pearl inset on the hinged lid. The lid opens and closes fine and there is even some snuff residue inside. The wood is simply beautiful in color and grain as you can see in the photos. It measures 2 by 3 & 1/4 by 5/8 inches and is in very good condition with two small nicks on the edge of the lid, which have actually smoothed over time from hands opening and closing the lid. The finish is shinier/more polished on the inside of the box, as its has been in many hands and pockets in its long life, which no doubt provided the patina on the outside as it exists today. Some of the original polished finish is visible on the lid around the center MOP inset. Please see the photos as they show it from every angle.
